Vernal Pool
Vernal Pool is a catastrophic future narrative where humanity must adapt to industrial or systemic environmental negligence beyond its control. The Earth’s elevated temperature is too hot for us to bear. Survival is strictly limited to living during the winter months. The work is a direct metaphor related to fairy shrimp, which lay eggs in natural pools during spring. The pools evaporate in the summer, but the eggs survive the hot and dry climate until the snowmelt fills the pools once again the following spring. The eggs hatch and the cycle of survival continues. Time is also a tool in Vernal Pool to communicate the reality of humanity's inclination towards greed, control, and power.
